Quibell “Q” Ramantswana Unveils Sneaker Brand That Honors Heritage.

In a bold fusion of culture, creativity, and commerce, Takalani Quibell Ramantswana—known to many simply as “Q”—has stepped into the entrepreneurial spotlight with the launch of his heritage-inspired sneaker brand, Phamba Prime. The former UK-based broadcaster, actor.

From Venda to Norwich: A Journey of Identity and Expression.

Born in the village of Luvhalani in the Nzhelele district of Venda, Limpopo, Quibell’s journey has been anything but ordinary. After attending Malema Primary School and George Mbulaheni Secondary School, he pursued journalism in England, where he spent a decade building a multifaceted media career. His work as a freelance journalist for UK and South African publications, coupled with a five-year stint as a radio producer and broadcaster at Future Radio in Norwich, earned him a nomination for South African UK-based Radio DJ of the Year in 2013 at the UK South African Achievers Awards (SAAA).

But Quibell’s talents didn’t stop at journalism. He studied drama in Norwich, and his compelling presence led BBC Voice Norwich to feature him in a short documentary about identity—one that ranked in the top ten out of over 150 submissions.

Return to South Africa: From Screen to Sole.

After returning to South Africa in 2013, Quibell appeared in several television commercials and joined the cast of the popular soap opera Muvhango in 2017, portraying the character Matodzi. His creative evolution continued in 2022 with the release of Ha-Phamba, a book chronicling six generations of his family history, tracing roots from the late 1700s to the 1900s.

Now, in 2025, Quibell is channeling that same passion for heritage into a new medium: sneakers.Phamba Prime: A Brand Woven with Ancestral Threads

The launch of Phamba Prime marks a significant moment in South African fashion. Named after the Tshivenda word “Phamba,” which refers to a powerful traditional medicine, the sneaker brand is a tribute to transformation, resilience, and identity.

> “Our sneakers carry the spirit of transformation and resilience. We believe that every individual’s DNA tells a unique story, one that deserves to be honored, celebrated, and shared with the world,” says Quibell.

More than just footwear, Phamba Prime is a cultural statement. Each pair is designed to spark conversations about family roots and ancestral legacy—topics often overlooked in modern society. Speaking to Norm VIP Magazine, Quibell emphasized the brand’s mission:

> “Everyone has a family, and every family has a history. I wanted to create something that’s relatable to everyone. Wearing Phamba is a declaration of identity.”

Local Pride, Global Vision.

South Africa has seen a surge in local sneaker brands, and Phamba Prime enters the market with a distinct edge: its deep cultural resonance. Quibell believes the time is ripe for South Africans to embrace homegrown brands over international giants.

> “Imagine a South Africa that supports more local sneaker brands. I believe this time is coming. When you sell quality, South Africans will support your brand.”

He adds that the design process was meticulous, with a focus on quality, comfort, style, and meaning. Though the project was completed in 2023, Quibell waited patiently for the right moment to launch—confident that its relevance would endure.

A Movement in Motion.

Since its debut, Phamba Prime has received enthusiastic support from fans, fashionistas, and cultural commentators alike. The brand’s online presence is growing rapidly, with orders streaming in from across the country and beyond.
